Retro Lamp Revamp

June 1, 2010

First off; How was your guy's Holiday?? Mine was great I finally was able to clean out some of our junk, and my hubs made THE best grilled corn EVER!!

I have a lot of stuff that I have been working on too for you guys!

One is this Retro Lamp I made over!
Check it!!
{Isn't the lamp it self totally cool! The shape is amazing and it weighs a TON!}

Before:
{She was pretty awesome to begin with just needed a little face lift ;).}

After:
{Recognize the fabric from somewhere??? It's from: The Ottoman Remix Part 1 HERE!! Guess what its made from......A BED SHEET!!}

Want to revamp one of your lamps, and shades???

Here's What You Need:

~Funky Lamp
{I got mine from the D.I./Local UT Thrift Store for $6.00!!}
~Primer
~Paint
{I used Krylon H2O in Blue Danube River, it is low odor which is so awesome, and the color is divine!}
~Poster Board
~Pencil/Pen
~Scissors
~Fabric of your choosing
~Hot Glue Gun

Here's The How-To:

1. Prime your lamp to prepare to paint.

2. After allowing primer to dry, paint the lamp in a color of your choosing and allow to dry.

3. To recover the shade you will want to remove the old fabric on the shade from the metal hoops, BE SURE TO KEEP THE SHADE INTACT YOU WILL NEED IT FOR FUTURE STEP!

4. After removing the shade from the hoops take the intact shade and trace it on to the poster board, be sure to add on a little extra to overlap in a future step to complete. I had to use two boards since the size of my shade was on the larger size, then I pieced them together.

5. Cut out your traced shade in the previous step.

6. Now use your stencil to cut out your fabric to wrap around the stencil. The post board will create stability and make it easier to cover with fabric. Be sure to cut some excess of fabric to glue over the edges of the stencil.

7. Hot glue your fabric tracing around the edges of the stencil, making sure that it is tight as you fasten it with glue to the stencil.

8. Now is the little tricky part, hot gluing the previously covered stencil to the hoops. Now generally one is smaller than the other. So what you want to do is go a little on each inside of the previously created shade as you go creating a uniform circular look.

9. Hot glue your excess on top of each other to join the shade.

10. ENJOY!!

Here is Before and After again:

{LOVE}

So what do you guys think? It's crazy what a little paint will do, and it looks great with the Ottoman! The shade was really super easy to do, if you have any questions about how to do it or just in general please let me know! Hope you all are having an awesome day!! Love, loves.

  53. I L-O-V-E this lamp. I am trying to convince my 11 yr. old daughters to redo their room in these colors but they are wanting to lean more towards the aqua/turquoise/zebra print and pink...which can be done nicely but I would much rather this type of design! Maybe in a few years they will feel the same love for it as you and I do!
