July 6, 2010

Hi Friends! Do I have a treat for you! Mandy from Mint & Clandy she is too cute and has some great tutorials! She is sharing an AWESOME tutorial I really think I have to make 1...or 25! Too cute!

Here she is:

Hey everyone!

I'm super-excited to be a part of Morgan's Meet Virginia Summer Tour! I love this blog & was thrilled to get invited to come over to introduce myself and share an idea with you. My name is Mandy & you can find me over at Mint & Clandy Create.

I'm a student and Mom of two. I'm currently working on my Master's in Speech Language Pathology, but I've taken a hiatus for the summer (Thank you littlest one). Thankfully, this has given me a lot of time to spend with my family, and also to create some fun and interesting things to share with you.
I'm happily married to the man of my dreams(6yrs). He's also extremely creative so if he'll ever let me stop him long enough to grab a picture or two, I hope to feature some of his creations.
On Mint & Clandy Create, you can expect to find many kid-centric activities and crafts, as well as simple activities for Moms & non-Moms alike. Crafts in my house have to be quick & easy, as they are primarily done during nap-time. The only other option is to include the kiddos in the activity, which I try to do as often as possible. I'm also on the impossible mission to get my house and life organized - so I"m sharing part of my lessons learned along the way. I really have a little for everyone. I hope you'll stop by and see for yourself!

This week I'm hosting my first give-away in honor of the grand opening of my Etsy shop! Stop by for a chance to win a gorgeous J. Crew inspired Knot & Pearl necklace - made by me.

Ready to see what we're making today?

Lemonade - Bib Necklace
This sweet little bib necklace can help you add a quick burst of color to any outfit. The colors conjured up images of a lemonade stand and sunshine. Good news's relatively quick. I made this in under an hour while my little one was napping.

{Doily, Necklace or Necklace parts, Assorted sizes of circles cut from Jersey cotton fabric and tulle, buttons, beads, coordinating thread}

1. Fold your doily in half & align as desired. Then open back up, insert place holder along fold. (I used a chopstick, then switched to a shish-ka-bob skewer) and apply Craft Glue to one side, following the lines of the doily, leaving the fold unglued. I know this is difficult to imagine, but the goal is to have an opening to slide a necklace chain through when the doily is dry.

2. Cut your circles in varying sizes out of the jersey material and tulle & set aside
3. Pick out some fun beads & buttons and lay them out to determine how you want the placement on your necklace bib.

4. Layer the circles of tulle and jersey as desired, then sew buttons or beads securely onto center of each "flower".

5. Secure flowers and buttons onto doily by sewing into place using coordinating thread. (You could probably glue these, but sewing them makes the entire necklace more secure.)
6. Slide your necklace or chain through the doily bib and admire your cute new necklace. You're finished!

Or if you'd rather skip the making & go straight to the wearing.....get one in my etsy shop!
Thanks again Morgan, for letting me come hang out with you & your readers today. I had so much fun sharing this project with you & hope you'll all stop by & say hi at Mint & Clandy Create sometime soon! I always love making new friends!

(Hopefully) See you soon!
