An "Investment"

Guys I did, I finally did it! I registered for school yesterday...again! An can I just say that getting going with school is always a huge pain in the butt! Do they make it that way for a reason....? To weed out the weak...?
To be honest I have had mixed emotions, on one hand I am super excited to start a new chapter in my life, but on the other hand I am having a hard time with it. I have a really hard time spending a lot of money....well on anything, let alone on myself, I feel like I am being majorly selfish. I wish they had coupons for tuition ;). Husband has been so supportive through all this, and thinks that I need to look at schooling as an investment, (I now own 2,000 shares of Morgan Will Be a Bomb Interior Designer Inc., we are also open to the public let me know if you are interested in investing ;)). Hopefully as the semesters go on (luckily I will only have 4!) I won't feel as crumby for shelling out so much cash just for myself.
Anyone else have a hard time with this? Would love any and all words of advice. Serious I have the blogosphere's best readers/aka friends ever ;). Love, love.

  1. Good for you! Education is defintely an investment, but a great one! I am so grateful I have a degree to fall back on if I ever need it and the entire 10 years of my marriage my husband has been a student...first a dental student and now an oral surgery resident. Talk about an investment! Thankfully the military covered a big part of it. Love your cute outfit today...I love that red and white striped shirt with the army green cargos...great look!

  2. I just applied for Grad School in Interior Design! I know the feeling of having to shell out for tuition, but over the last four years of my undergrad in Landscape Architecture I found out that there are a TON of scholarships out there for girls like us. :) I would look into that, or even reentry scholarships if you've been out of school for a year or two. Also, just think about all the wonderful things this will open up for you!! It's not just an investment in you and your education, it's an investment in future opportunities that could change your life!

  3. School is always a great idea in my book =) It will be worth it in the end, and school is super fun! I've applied for my Masters and I'm waiting to hear if I've been accepted or not...should hear something by next month. I'm super excited, and also very, very nervous since we are living on my income alone right now. If i'm accepted I won't be able to work so much but I know it will be worth it in the end. Go for it Girl!!

  4. It really is hard to spend so much money on school. But, right now, with the economy the way it is, is a PERFECT time to be in school. You will be getting a lot more back in taxes too :)

  5. I'm doing the same thing...going back to school. I have to mind you because I am a NYS teacher and we need to get our master's degree. And I'm having a hard time spending the money because 1st I don't have a classroom and to be honest with the budget cuts I'm not sure I will ever end up in a classroom of my own. I'm just taking the leap of faith that the economy will get better and when this is all over I will find a teaching job. If not I'm not sure what next for me but I'm going to finish what I started. The money is hard for me to spend because I'm not work, but luckily I'm applying to a state school which is cheaper but the downfall is that they are having budget problems too. I'm in trouble either way, oh well. Good LUCK!! I hope my story at least made you feel better about going back. lol.

  7. Morgan,
Srsly i want to hang and shop with you too :) I am in the SAME exact boat as you right now. I am going back to school for Fashion Merchandizing, my original degree is in Journalism and I am so unhappy with it. It is so hard going back, and i feel like its so scary spending so much money and not knowing if it will even lead us in the right direction/ to the right job. But i figure school can never hurt, and if theres any time for us to do it, right now is the best because if we get old and gray and have babies we might never go back. Good luck with everything i am excited for you :) don't feel guilty your totally worth it!!

  11. You can't put a price on education. We're instructed to get all the education we can even if it is expensive. You really don't need to feel selfish at all.

  12. You go girl! If you don't invest in yourself who will?

And if it makes you feel any better, I'm in tens of thousands of more debt for my MBA... I keep telling myself that somehow people find ways to pay this off that doesn't include streetwalking.

  13. Money is always a bummer, especially when it all goes to tuition and books. Blech! Fortunatley it is all worth it. Especially if you are investing in an education you love and will use. Rock the semester!

  14. I think tuition coupons are a great idea. They should definitely do that! I have a hard time spending a lot of money on myself as well. I think you are NOT being selfish. School is money well spent. Its always hard, but I think you will do great and it will be worth your time and money! Congrats!! :)

  16. Good luck babe! That is amazing! I actually did not start photography school because of the crazy tuiton they asked for, however I do think it is the best investment and you won't regret it! I've met so many wonderful people at my previous photo school who helped, inspired and pushed me that even just for that it was worth it! :D

  21. I love love this outfit! Love the jumping pic too! Okay so you're awesome! You do have to look at it as an investment! Just think how much debt we'll be in when my husbands done! Probably like $170,000! Does that make you feel better? CA tuition sucks! I try not to think about it! You have to spend money to make money though! Oh and just remember the prophet says to it's fine to go into debt for schooling and houses! I'm sure you'll love it! That's the school I wanna do if I ever go... Good luck and what school are you going to?

  22. Thanks for the comment! I was so excited about my new sweater :) I love your mix of colors in this outfit, isn't color the best accessory? Also tip for school... I have paid for my tuition since I was a Freshman so I know the feeling every semester when all that money leaves your bank account but I think it's all in your perspective. If you just get in "school mode" it hardly phases you because it's just what you gotta do and you're prepared for it every semester! And lucky you, you only have four semesters! I'll graduate with ten under my belt!!

  24. Congratulations and gooooooooo luck! Today I went back to my old campus where I did my undergrad. Although I would only go back there if I got a full scholarship, nonetheless every time I students I feel like I should go back to school, at least part of me feels like it. Although, the other part feels rather unsure of everything. In any case, good luck you made the decision, it seems you are going to study what you truly enjoy and believe it. Leap into it and try to make the best of it each and every day. That's my advice :) I enjoy reading your blog and I'm actually working on a mini project inspired by you too!!!

  31. I went to a couple open houses here in NYC for some Interior Design Schools for graduate programs and they are so expensive that I got very discouraged about it and the commitment (3 years fulltime) I was like OMG, what am I going to do to survive...it's such a big decision to make. I commend you for taking the next step and making this happen for yourself. Which school are you applying or going to start?

BTW, You are so adorable...I just discovered your blog and now following! Would love for you to stop by and support.

    xoxo from NYC.
