Lovely Living Room Art

March 24, 2011

Remember way back when, when I said I wanted/needed some botanical art for my living room? Well I finally finished the pieces while hubby was gone in Africa. I know what you are thinking that was weeks ago that he was in Africa why are you just barely posting them now, all I can say to that is: 'It's better now, and not later right ;)'? This is what I came up with:

~I found the frames at my local thrift store for $4.00 each which was a screaming deal since they are HAaa-uge!
~The mats are from Rite-Aid (I know weird right? But they were the cheapest I could find without having to have them custom made to the dimensions I needed, they ended up being $6.99 each)!!
~I then covered the mats which were originally white with a tan muslin fabric, just by using hot glue and some elbow grease to make sure the fabric didn't ripple.
~The inlaid print is a fabric from a chair reupholster that I had left over. I used a piece of cardstock to cover with the fabric so the fabric would be so flimsy when I put it behind the picture frame mat.

Now they are hung with care aside the window in our apartment! I really love how they turned out and how cheap it was to make such a huge impact (I have thrifting to thank for that ;)). To be honest I was so against the brass finish in home decor, but these frames just work. It has really made me think that I need to be more adventurous with interior design.

What do you guys think? Love? Like? Think I should reconsider this whole interior design thing?

Really (for the bajajillionth time) thanks so much again guys, you are the sweetest readers a girl could ever ask for. Your wonderful words of advice really reassured me that I am doing the right thing and made me feel sOoooo much better! You're all just great! Love, love.

ps: I have a fun project to share with you guys tomorrow so get super excited for that, and stay tuned ;).

  5. I have been so remiss in visiting, I have a lot of catching up to do! I love seeing what you come up with for outfits and great crafty ideas, this is a beautiful grouping, I have never thought of using fabric for a picture (not sure why, I DO think outside the box on occasion). They turned out beautifully!! I am off to see what other cool stuff I have missed. Hope you are having a great day!!
