He did goooood!!), Bag: Thrifted (Layton D.I.), Necklace: Target, Earrings: Charlotte Russe}

First do we or do we not LOOOooove the shoes hubby got me for our Anniversary (He for sure deserved some public kudos for them for sure!!). I pretty much want to wear them with everything and anything!!

Guys I am in the market for a new nice camera (by nice, I don't mean a point and shoot I want a profesh-sh super beginner camera). I have a Canon right now, and I won't tell you the model because it's slightly embarrassing seeing as how everyone has a nifty super fancy one now!
So I was wondering if you had any advice for me? Hubby wants to get a Canon, I am stuck in the middle between a Nikon and a Canon. And since you guys have never led me astray I of course turn to you for your awesome advice!
What I really want is a camera that fits this criteria:
~Is reliable
~Is worth paying the money for
~Easy to use
~Takes pretty pictures
~Oh and easy to use...We all know I'm technologically challenged ;)
So what do you guys think?? Also do you guys recommend any places to purchase said chosen camera?? I love/need a good deal on this baby since it isn't something I "technically" need to live....The case I like to plead is that I can't "Live" fully in the blogger world unless I have a kick butt camera....?? Convinced?? Really you guys, I so appreciate it! I'll continue to say it you really are the best and I don't know what I'd do without ya!
Thanks Friends! Love, love.

  1. Love the shoes! Hubs did a great job :)

As for the cameras, I've heard that Cannons are a bit more user friendly, but I LOVE my Nikon. With either brand it always helps to read the manual ;) And as for places, Sam's club usually has pretty good sales on camera bundles, so does Best Buy!

Good luck, hon. Can't wait to see which one you go with!!

  3. get a canon!!! I have one and love it. I have had it for 2.5 years. I really don't like nikons! They sound like they are breaking everytime someone takes a picture haha. But If you got a camera, get a canon rebel. They are really amazing and super easy to learn!

  4. Wow. Those oxfords are fabulous! They just have so much personality! Love them. As for a camera, my whole family uses fancy shmancy Canons. And they all take way better pictures than I can. My sister and I also had point and shoot Canons and noticed that the picture quality far surpassed other point and shoot cameras at the time.. so that's got to be saying something.

  5. Canon, for sure.
I also have a nikon and it is as not as user friendly as my canon.
My nikon you have to be constantly changing setting, aperture...etc
    Both just take practice!

  6. REally I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I'm a canon girl all the way (I have three), but I have other photographer friends that are die hard nikonites (do you like that word? I think I made it up).

As for where to go, before you buy, check Amazon. With a purchase that big you may be eligible for free shipping, and I've found considerable savings on lenses at least. Alisha's right though, about checking Sam's or Costco for bundles. If you're looking for a body and a few lenses, that may be the way to go.

Good luck. My first big girl camera changed my life. :)

  7. I loved my cannon but I got a nikon and it's super amazing at taking bright photos!
Canons are more user-friendly and are probably easier to use since you've had one before but nikons really do take amazing pictures!
Also, it depends on if you're getting a point and shoot or a dslr.
If you're going for a dslr then I recommend you definitely get a Nikon (:

  8. I have a Nikon and kind of want to switch to a Canon . . . granted, I know nothing (NOTHING!) about photography, but just from playing with my Nikon and my dad's Canon, his pictures always come out looking better than mine even just on Auto mode, when we're taking the exact same shot. Honestly, I have a nicer camera than I know what to do with but my pictures just don't come out as good as I would have expected for having such a nice camera!

And I love the top you're wearing here . . . so cute!

  10. I have an older version of the Canon PowerShot SX130. You can see it here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Canon+-+PowerShot+SX130+IS+12.0-Megapixel+Digital+Camera+-+Black/1218341.p?id=1218237709263&skuId=1218341

I don't have an SLR because I wanted a portable camera that I could throw in my bag without worrying about it. It does still have some manual features because I thought I would upgrade one day. Four years later I'm still happy with this camera.

  11. I used to have a NIKON and it was really difficult to use. I got a Canon rebel t2i at Xmas and I love it! Got an amazing deal at 42nd street photo. They will try to sell you other stuff, but they were the best deal by $100!

  12. I'm a huge Canon fan. I know lots of people preach about how wonderful Nikons are, but I don't think they're all that user-friendly, especially if you don't know a whole lot about DSLR's. I just bought a Canon Rebel EOS T3 and I looooove it! I just did an engagement shoot for some friends with it-you can see some of the pictures from the shoot on my blog if you want to see the picture quality.

  13. CANON all the way. theyre so much easier to use. i have a nikon d40 and always use my boyfriends canon 7d... but i think in the end the lens matters more than the camera body. without my 50 mm id die :)

  15. I just bought my first profesh camera last year. I got a Canon Rebel XSi and love it. Debated between a canon and nikon for months. The reason I went with canon was because their lenses are compatible across the board, while nikons you have to stick within certain families. The lens makes ALL the difference too! Plus the canon is super easy to use. I mean if I can figure it out anyone can!!!! Good luck with the purchase.

  16. Before I bought my Nikon I read reviews on Amazon. I think my Nikon is super easy to use. My mom has a Canon and I have used it. My Nikon is way more user friendly than her canon.

  17. I own a Nikon D60 and absolutely LOVE IT!!! I have had it for two years now and still in love with it... From what I heard, Nikon is easier to use than a Cannon. But you know, everyone has a different preference... :)

  18. We researched DSLRs last fall and, after a few months of thinking about it, bought one in January. We got the Canon T1i. If you don't want to take video, you could get the Canon XS.

We asked soo many people about Canon vs. Nikon. It sounds like the Nikon lenses might be a touch better. But, I personally liked how the Canon felt in my hand and looked on the back-end (the buttons, screen, etc.), and that mattered more to me. Brand loyalty! :)

  19. I love this outfit, especially the shoes! He did great! Good luck with getting a camera!

  20. Nikon. i have the d90 and love it. I don't have a canon, but find what features you like and what are most important and do research for you on both cameras. I went in and talked to a few different shops about the cameras and differences before I bought one. also, i would find photographer's website and see what they have in their bag as a lot will list it on their site.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I use a Nikon D3100 and I absolutely love it! I wanted a D90 but realized that I had just a (like-you) point and shoot camera, and going that professional would have been a mistake. I love my camera and I would recommend it to anyone! Great beginner camera!

  22. I'm a canon girl but have at times thought about switching to nikon. The good thing about canons is that you have a better variety of lenses to choose from.

I have the canon 7d and LOOOOVVEE it. i don't regret buying it one bit.

    ReplyDelete
  23. GO NIKON!!! The best thing about them is that you can use OLD (IE VINTAGE) lenses with the new DSLRs. I have a film kit from the early 80's, one from the late 90's, and my DSLR from 09, and all the lenses interchange (except the newest lenses with the oldest camera).
You can get a d90 for a great price, or D3000, D3100, d5000 (that is what I have) all for under a grand! :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I love both! But I have a Canaon Rebel Xsi and I really love it! I adore photography but have yet to get ANY type of "official" training/classes and this camera is great for a beginner! My hubby surprised me with it for Christmas a few years back and said he got a screamin' deal on ebay, so I'd look there! :0) Good luck!

  25. I'm getting a Nikon pretty soon because I mostly shoot nature and I've been told that Nikons have more vibrant colors. I've also been told that Canons are better for portrait shots.

  29. I am partial to Canon because I have a Canon. It's the EOS 60D and I love it. When I bought it I got the 18x200 zoom which has come in super handy. I can't say enough about how wonderful this camera is!

  32. Both companies make phenomenal cameras, but it is really a preference thing. I was deciding between a Canon and Nikon a few weeks ago and ended up buying the Nikon D3100. I just found the body felt more sturdy and comfortable in my hands. It's only been 3 weeks that I've had my Nikon, and I absolutely LOVE it! Since it is my first DSLR, I find it extremely easy to use and it takes great pictures!! But you honestly can't go wrong with either one.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Definitely Nikon DSLR. I think the D3000 series is good to start with. Costco has a great starter package for the Nikon D3100 (I think its that model, whichever one is the step above the lowest level for the DSLR) with an additional lens and some extra gadgets for $700. That's a good deal. That is what I am getting in a few months and I am so excited! Yay for cool cameras and the complete blogger lifestyle!

  34. i personally have a nikon dSLR (funny how i never use it to take my outfit photos), BUT for a beginner model, i'd go with any of the canon rebels. i could go on and on and on about why, but just trust me on that one.

  35. Okay first off you look very laid back chic and yes the hubs did a great job with those shoes, super cute! Second if I had to pick I would say Nikon. I have a D700 and I find it pretty simple to use and it takes pretty good pics especially if you know what you are doing which I do not. But Nikon would be my vote. Hope that helped a little.
    Cheers,

  36. I have never used a Nikon since I have a Canon and love it. But with any camera, it's really the lens that has to be quality and where much of the investment can go.

A good friend of mine is a serious photographer (actors, models, marketing campaigns, print type of stuff) and when I asked him what equipment I needed he pointed me in the direction of Canon.

    Hope that helps!

  40. I've been in debating mode for a long time with camera's too. My sister swears by canon. I don't really know what model to get, but when I get one, it will be a canon. Def keep us posted on what you decide!

I also wondered if you've heard of this new company - The IOU Project? They have a great collection of clothing & part of the project is making the story of the clothing transparent. They work with weavers in India & tailors in Europe. Every clothing item is unique & you can actually see the people involved in its making online.

Seems like something you might be into!

You can see the whole collection here: http://iouproject.com/shop/

  45. Hey Morgan! You are probably going to get an equal amount of votes on Canon vs Nikon. They both are equally hard/easy to use. I went with canon because the lens I wanted was so much cheaper.50mm 1.8. I agree with the Rebel. I shoot with an xsi and it seems to do the job. There are really good deals on eBay. I would love to show you the "basics" when you get one. I am not great by any means, but I do remember starting out and wishing someone would give me a little run down, so I didn't have to read all those long boring photography books;)

But it is truly the best camera I've ever had. :]

Nikon is known for the sharp lenses & quality. Nikon is better than Cannon in their SLR cameras, Cannon is better than Nikon in the point & shoot cameras.

I have the Nikon D5000 & completely LOVE it.

  58. I just bought a Nikon D7000 and LOVE it. But here's the thing, you can have the best camera in the world and take bad pictures. Canon and Nikon are both extremely good at what they do (making DSLRs specifically). You really can't go wrong with either one. Supposedly Canon's are more user friendly, but I haven't found my Nikon to be difficult to use. Just do your research. Also, box stores are going to try and sell you on resolution and ISO. Resolution doesn't matter unless you are blowing your pictures up to life-size. Pay attention to what censor is in the camera. Okay, I could go on forever. I am cutting myself off now. Heck, you may have already bought a camera. :)

  60. I have a Canon Rebel XSi and it's super easy to use, takes great photos and is affordable. The best advice I could give you for getting the best photos is don't worry so much about which camera, but invest in a nice lens. I have a 50mm 1.8 that I love, and a 28-135mm 3.5 both made by Canon. They don't cost that much and are good lenses for what you'd pay for them.
