Recreated// A Sweet Suzani Bedroom

June 23, 2014

I love me a good ethnic print and Suzanis fit that bill! Suzanis are textiles that come from far off places like Uzbekistan and central Asia.  They are these country’s version of our handmade quilts and feature hand embroidered patterns that have been passed down from generation to generation. Suzanis can be used in a variety of applications. Here are some examples:

Now you can find Suzani pieces mass produced (ahem Target) but I love the authentic ones. The colors and textures are just amazing and can add so much character to your space. Without further ado here is the inspiration for today's RECREATED:

I just adore this bedroom (wish it was my own even). I love how the space for me feels more masculine. It's like the Suzani is just an accessory to the design and doesn't command all of your attention whereas in the examples listed above might offer more of a feminine feel. The Suzani which could be considered feminine due to the circular patterns, curved lines, and color palette were balanced out by the cooler wall color, black and white artwork, and rich wood end tables to make the space feel more masculine. I mean how could it not with a wicked guitar, faux fur throw, and handsome kitty sprawled out on the bed?

Here is what I came up with. I tried to stick to the inspiration as best as I could will still adding my own flair. All of the items sourced are readily available and decently priced (my specialty ;) ):

So friends give Suzanis a try. Add a little spice to your life or use them as an accessory in your masculine vibe space. You can thank me later ;).
